South Asia Showcase
The South Asian Showcase aims to highlight the shared hopes, dreams, and aspirations of the nearly two billion people living in South Asia.
This year, the International Film Initiative of Bangladesh presented four Docs-in-Progress in the South Asia Showcase at Cannes Docs, the section of the Marché du Film that presents various documentary films in their advanced stages. Altogether, 32 films have been shown in eight curated showcases from regions across the globe. This is the first time a South Asia Showcase has been presented at Cannes Docs.
We are incredibly proud to announce that two of our films have been recognized by the Cannes Docs jury. Devi, directed by Subina Shrestha and produced by Rosie Garthwaite received an honorary mention from the jury. MUNNI, directed by Tahrima Khan and produced by Abu Shahed Emon, received the official award from Think-Film Impact Production, a creative impact consultancy that explores innovative ways to merge the worlds of film and policy.
Of the eight South Asian countries, the films presented this year are from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, and Nepal. In the variety of their subject matters and treatment, these four films portray the incredible contrast and richness of the lived lives in South Asia.
